Meeting Minutes

Saturday March 15th 2008

The meeting was convened at 10:00 am.

There were so many regular members as well as NEW members that I was totally Flabbergasted and forgot to turn on the recorder, so I am flying a little blind here. Daniel has said that if I get something wrong he will tell me and I will set it right here.

1) I opened the meeting with the announcement that a young man that I and new member Jake Hubbard knew, had passed away. This was important to the club because the young man had passed away from injuries that he received from an accident involving a neighbor of mine, Eddie.

Eddie was the principle reason for starting Street Shaker Cruzin N Racing because he was killed drag racing his car on the dam road in Forsyth. If that wasn't bad enough, 2 other kids were killed when the cars collided. Our friend was the only survivor of the accident and he was hospitalized for quite a while and when he came out he had reoccurring seizures. The seizures were what he finally died from.

I did get up on my soapbox for a few minutes and spoke about the problems of street racing and the long term affects from a mishap. Phil did tell me later that I was only on my soapbox for a brief second, but I really think it was longer.

2) I introduced Billy Bassett, Billy B, to the club and he made an announcement about what the Chamber of Commerce was going to do to help out our club. The Chamber is going to give to our club, he stated, the first $200 received from the 50/50 raffle tickets sale. That is the first $200 after the sale of $400 worth of tickets, hence the 50/50 part. He showed a bag to the members and told them at the end of the meeting that they would be available for club members to pick up for sale.

3) I spoke about our club joining the Chamber of Commerce and the benefits from that participation.

4) I spoke about our Project truck and that we have 3 engines available that I can donate for it. I mentioned that when we finish the truck, we will over the period of a year sell raffle tickets so the club can get the proceeds after the initial costs.

5) I mentioned that I had sent off letters to Edelbrock and Lincoln Electric and was waiting to hear back from them.

6) Dave Uprichard brought up the issue of shop safety. Dave and I are going to get together here in the next week or so and make a set of shop rules.

7) Daniel brought up about fund raising ideas.  I told everyone present what Daniel had told us at the February meeting about a Topless Car Wash. The wash would be a guys only thing. We would have some of our female members as decoy's on the street flagging in people with signs about a topless car was. When the people paid and they entered the building there would be standing the GUY's with no shirts on. It seemed to me that everyone enjoyed that Idea.

I then mentioned the idea that Billy B gave me about holding a car rally. We would set up check points around the area, taney, stone and maybe barry county, and the cars would have to run a preset course. The car with the closest time to what we have without going over will be the winner. The second place and third place finishers as well and they would each receive a trophy. Each car would have a driver and a navigator and they would pay a total of $30 for each car. This was also met by a good response.

8) I took a vote and Daniel seconded the vote on having Dave Holvick as our club Chaplain. I stated that it couldn't hurt having the man upstairs on our side.

9) I mentioned about the shop dues and then being paid at the meeting before the rent was due and giving till the 29th of the month as the deadline.

If I missed anything please let me know and I will fix it, I already know that Danile is looking at this and will tell me what I missed. After all, if Shellie isn't there he then becomes my memory.
